General Objective

PACE is demonstrating a first-of-its-kind, full-scale retrofitted biorefinery, using fermentation and microbial chain elongation technology to convert potato juice into high-value bio-based medium-chain fatty acids. Retrofitting an existing facility, rather than building new, creates a new circular bio-based value chain within a zero-waste operation, replacing MCFAs traditionally derived from crude oil or unsustainable palm oil. The technology is designed to be scalable and replicable across Europe, with significant expected economic and employment benefits in the region where it operates.
